Guitar

Q. Why do you think its important to learn music?

“The subtle yet empowering process of learning an instrument puts one in close touch with their own creativity, emotions and expressivity.
It deepens the student”s connection with self and their cultural environment simultaneously. I believe this ultimately makes the world a better place and brings meaning to the work I do as a teacher.“

Andrew has an eclectic musical path that centres around blues, jazz and North American folk traditions, and has been teaching guitar for over 20 years.

Andrew also plays Pedal Steel Guitar with many songwriters and bands in the Toronto area, and has toured internationally. Andrew played Pedal Steel on Quique Escamilla’s album 500 Years of Night which earned a Juno award for Best World Music Recording in 2015.

A multi-instrumalist with an ongoing interest in creative approaches to recording, Andrew has produced several independent artists and songwriters and composed music for a number of independent films.

“Whether we are listeners or practitioners, students or teachers, music brings balance and health to our lives. Music stimulates left and right brain processes, satisfying our need for abstract beauty while simultaeneously nurturing a sense of order and rationality. As a teacher, I aim to familiarize my students with the magical feeling of making music. At the same time, my task is to help them develop the technical skills and objective knowledge that they will need on the path of exploring their own musicality and creativity.”
